Summit Expeditions in the Himalayas
After a successful summit climb on Aconcagua it would be a natural progression for determined and passionate mountain climbers to ascend one of the great peaks in the Nepalese Himalayas. Baruntse and Cho Oyu, at around 7000m and 8000m respectively, are two stunning peaks which are useful to climb prior to the world's giant, Everest.
BARUNTSE (7220m) - 32 Day Itinerary
This is a perfect expedition for those seeking to push themselves towards higher peaks, being nestled comfortably in height between the 6000m and 8000m summits.
At 7220m the objectively safe south east ridge of Baruntse is deservedly increasing in popularity. Despite being situated only a few miles from Everest it offers a stunning and remote trek to Base Camp, amazing views of Makalu and a very exposed but technically easy summit day. It is an ideal expedition for those who are interested in going above 8000m in the future yet still offers the logical next step for those who have been successful on a 6000m peak such as Island Peak, Mera Peak or Aconcagua. Climbed on fixed lines with our regular Sherpa team this is arguably the definitive Himalayan expedition.
CHO OYU (8201m) - 40 Day Itinerary
At 8201m Cho Oyu is known as the Turquoise Goddess and is the sixth tallest mountain in the world.
Straddling the border between Nepal and Tibet it is arguably the easiest of the 8000m mountains, although any climb to these extreme altitudes is both physically and mentally demanding with a significant level of risk and thus it should never be described as easy. We make our climb by the sweeping north west face, placing three camps above base camp. The majority of the route is snow slopes up to 30 degrees with two distinct crux’s, a steep serac cliff at 6800m and the Yellow Rock Band just above Camp 3, both climbed on fixed lines. Climbing 8000m peaks is hard work but extremely rewarding and Cho Oyu possibly offers your best chance of summiting one of the fourteen.
